The Ardèche canyon is a nature reserve managed by an administrative union which fixes traffic and behavior rules within the protected area.
Staying in the Bivouac is therefore regulated and is only allowed in certain areas.
Overnight stay in the Ardèche canyon nature reserve
If you have chosen a two-day trip in the Ardèche canyon nature Reserve, it is mandatory to spend the night in one of the two bivouacs:
- Bivouac Gaud: located in the first third of the trip. 350 places.
- Bivouac Gournier: located halfway along the trip. 250 places.
The equipment of the bivouacs
- Reception: Nature reserve guards and seasonal workers.
- Sanitary facilities: toilets, showers, drinking water.
- No recharge points.
- 3 marabouts (army tent, each has space for 15 people). These army tents have neither bed nor mattress, just a floor…
- Tent Cozy (6 places). The tent walls can be removed to enjoy the freshness of the evening and the view. Nevertheless, you are protected by the fly screens. No beds, no mattresses, PVC floors in the tent.
- Tables, communal barbecue (charcoal provided).
- Garbage cans and containers for waste separation.
- First aid service.
- Attention: Alcohol is prohibited in the entire bivouac area.
- New: coffee, tea and juice sales.
Limited capacity
Look out!
The capacity of each bivouac is limited to 250 people per evening (maximum limit increased to 500 people for 14 nights per year).
Therefore, it is necessary to book as early as possible in order to get tickets for the bivouac stay.
